Men's Mental Health Awareness Month

June 9, 2026

June is Men's Mental Health Awareness Month.

Mental health is often overlooked when it comes to men. What actually does mental health look like when it comes to men? Does that mean just seeking a therapist and talking about our issues, or is it something that we should take on physically through activities. I do not think that there is a clear answer for everyone; however I have built a stronger mental health through both actions.

As a coach who helps high achievers and busy professionals, I am a big advocate of not just a stronger body, but a stronger MINDSET as well. Can all of this be achieved physically? No, I do not believe it can. I believe the physical is how things can get started. As men, the physical aspect gets things out. I am a son of a mechanic.

For years, many of my dads friends and coworkers were able to get issues out just by talking while working. However, being a mechanic is a very physical job. Most of the current workforce has moved to sedentary jobs and even working remotely. This physical disconnect has created a greater impact on men's mental health. It is ironic I have trained many Engineers and IT Professionals.

When I started lifting weights in my late 20's to early 30s I was able to release a lot of my inner struggles. As time progressed, I even worked with mental health professionals and built daily practices of meditation, breathing exercises, journaling and reading along with a daily strength training routine.

Strength training is my most important factor for improving my mental health. I have also seen the most improvement from my clients with just strength training. The 1% Rule is by improving your daily habits by just 1% each day or week, over time these compound to other areas of your life. There is nothing more satisfying that a great chest and arm workout!

If you start just strength training, it will lead to better eating habits. Having a healthier gut also improves our mood. Increasing your hydration and sleep will improve your natural energy. Then you add in a few supplements like creatine and ashwagandha, which will improve your brain cognition. Add in mental health practices and after 90 days you are a new man.

So, one step in the right direction will create a chain reaction to making a lifestyle change.
